Summary: Imangi Studios is seeking a talented Lead Character Artist to join our team and help create industry-leading mobile games! 

The Lead Character Artist position is a hands-on role that requires the ability to deliver high-quality, consistent character assets. You will help set the quality bar for the team, establish or maintain art pipelines, and guide the team to meet production commitments. The ideal candidate aids in implementing the required production methods to guarantee high-quality results in an efficient and timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide thoughtful leadership and creative, technical direction to the character team

  • Create (Model, UV, Texture) high-quality characters and creatures for mobile games

  • Manage the team of artists responsible for character content development, including mentorship and training, appraising employee performance through regularly scheduled 1-on-1s, and resolving interpersonal and performance issues

  • Represents the Character Art team among project leadership, providing an accurate assessment of character art initiatives

  • Manage the direction on character asset development from concept through animation

  • Review assets to ensure they satisfy their cross-discipline intention and are ready for rigging and animation

  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to fulfill complex game design requirements

  • Actively contribute in technical and aesthetic problem solving discussions, critiques, and reviews

  • Work closely with the Art Director and other Character Artists to ensure a consistent style that matches or exceeds the visual target

  • Assist in planning the asset production schedule, character creation pipeline, and workflow

  • Maintains excellent communication, including written and verbal feedback, internally and externally with our development partners (as needed)

  • Manage external teams of character artists by creating content lists, validating estimates, reviewing work, and facilitating necessary communication

Qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of human anatomy and color 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Game Art, or similar experience

  • 7+ years of game development experience as a 3D artist specializing in character creation

  • Excellent knowledge of character development from concept to completion, including best practices and production pipelines

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Familiarity with Unity, or equivalent game engines

  • Critical eye for detail

Preferred Additional Experience:

  • Maya experience preferred

  • Experience creating stylized, lower poly characters

  • Experience creating customizable/RPG-style characters

  • Character and Prop concepting skills

  • Previous experience managing or leading a team
